Hello!
I am a Helsinki-based politics and public relations consulting professional with a specialization in Japan.
My professional background combines expertise in communications and public relations with public affairs with a passion for international politics, economics and the Asia-Pacific. Currently, I work as a Project Manager at Nordic West Office, a Finnish geopolitics think tank and advisory firm.
I hold a BA in Political Science and International Relations and an MSc in East Asian Studies. Academically, I specialized in Japanese politics and society: my master’s thesis explored opposition arguments against Japan’s 2015 constitutional reinterpretation allowing collective self-defense. The thesis can be accessed here.
Keep in mind while reading it that I am, I hope, a better writer now than back in 2018.
In addition, I contribute to The Ulkopolitist, a Finnish foreign affairs focused online publication, where I write a (twice-a-year) column and edit articles focusing on Japan and the Asia-Pacific. I have also managed a number of projects at the outlet, including cooperation projects with the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki and Accenture. You can read my articles (in Finnish) here.
For The Ulkopolitist-related inquiries – or if you wish to send (hopefully positive and/or constructive) feedback on my articles – please email me at eero.tuorila@ulkopolitist.fi
I am always interested in political and societal developments in Japan, while also following politics in Finland, the European Union, and the U.S. In addition, I like reading and listening to discussions on economics, EU-China ties, and the political trends and ideas of our time.
Outside of work, I enjoy walks with our dog Mochi around our neighborhood in Helsinki and going to the gym. When relaxing, you can find me watching football (I support Arsenal) and movies, reading books, and occasionally playing games.
